The kids at the penelope House & Penelope Closet are steel talking about you
House because our volunteers are truly amazing but in the year 2009
they really went above and beyond the call of duty. Some people may
think volunteering is just babysitting the children but the volunteers
here today prove that it is so much more. Volunteering at Penelope
House is having a monthly get together with our ladies and bringing
delicious gourmet food and gifts and sharing stories and inspiring
them to have a better life like Kim Newman does and its bring special
treats and playing with the children for hours and bringing other young
adults with you for the children and being a positive role model and
putting all the VHS videos for the Penelope House Prevention
Education Program on DVD at no charge like Lafe Blobaum does. Kim
And Lafe are volunteers from Harvest Church. It’s the kind of person
that never says no to any staff member no matter how menial the task
whether its emptying the garbage at The Chocolate festival, doing
back breaking yard work,
Hauling mounds of trash to the dump, getting Santa to come for the
children, moving furniture, volunteering at Penelope’s closet and the
list goes on and on and on ---That would be Gwyn Howard. I seriously
don’t know why he takes my calls. Its setting up a school supply drive
on your college campus without even being asked to on top of being a
devoted volunteer at the shelter and a very busy college student That
is our adorable Cory Samz. It took about six car loads to get all the
supplies to Penelope House. Its turning your own personal tragedy
into a blessing for Penelope House. That’s what Jo and Danny
Dunnaway did when their beautiful smart kind and loving co-worker
and friend Claire Alger was murdered they decided they didn’t want
her death to be in vane so the day after she was killed they called
Penelope House and spoke with me about raising funds in her name
and that’s just what they did along with their employees at Hydro
Technologies and then in October presented Penelope House with a
big fat check in Claires name. We won’t ever forget her.
