| 95KSJ Mobile Harley Owners Group Chapter 0040 Road Captain Gwyn Howard led the charge to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to deliver the check to the hospital and gifts for the children. Mobile H.O.G. has had the privilege of delivering the proceeds of the annual Ride for St. Jude fund raising ride sponsored by 95 KSJ along with Mobile and Eastern Shore Harley-Davidson. The group gathered at Mobile Bay Harley-Davidson for a 6: 00 AM departure, August 19th. Channel 10 news was there to record the departure which included riders from Mobile H.O.G., the Patriot Guard, the Marine Corps League and Southern Cruisers. The Southern Cruisers split off from the group split off to join other Cruisers going to Memphis, the rest of the H.O. G. Group, ten bikes with sixteen souls, continued on to Hattiesburg for breakfast. Heavy rains came while we enjoyed breakfast so we had to gear up to roll on. Fortunately we ran out of the rains by the time we fueled up in Magee Mississippi. From that point the ride to Memphis was uneventful. We checked into the Marriott Downtown Memphis and stepped slap into the Southern Cruisers national convention! It was great that Mobile H.O.G. had the opportunity to add a bit of class to their event! Four of our members went directly to St. Jude’s to donate blood and platelets. Those donations are critical to St. Jude’s operation! Something like 85% of their blood product donations are collected on site and are sincerely appreciated. That evening we were able to take the trolley downtown for dinner and entertainment. Dinner was at the Rendezvous where we enjoyed some great barbecue. After dinner several of our pack adjourned to Beale Street to take in some of the entertainment opportunities while some of us went back to the hotel to get some much needed rest! Friday morning we made our 9:00 AM appointment at St. Jude’s to present our offerings. We were met by Scott Hinshelwood and Jessica Jacobson, both of whom provided us a fantastic tour of the hospital. Gwyn Howard along with Tommy & Nina Hunt purchased the materials for 48 dozen dew rags, Jim & Judy Fleischamel provided the talent and equipment to assemble them. The group presented a check in the amount of $10,000 for hospital use and the dew rags as gifts for the children. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this facility I strongly urge you to seek the opportunity to do so. After leaving the hospital we visited Graceland Harley- Davidson and had lunch at Marlowe’s Barbecue. Donnie had been talking about the price and availability of toilet paper so please look for the pictures of Donnie being presented an industrial size roll of toilet paper by the staff of Marlowe’s. After lunch the group split again with some visiting Graceland, some going back to the hotel for a nap. Dinner Friday evening was at the Mesquite Chophouse followed by a trip to Beale Street to enjoy the entertainment offerings. Wow! Saturday morning we pointed our wheels south. We stopped in Southaven for fuel, breakfast and a visit to Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson. Big store! We enjoyed clear weather and good roads for our trip home. The St. Jude’s ride is one of Chapter 0040’s annual rides. The company we ride with is as fine a group as can be found, delivering support to St. Jude’s makes for warm feelings and the opportunity to visit St. Jude’s is absolutely awe inspiring. I strongly urge you to participate in one of our future rides. |
